PROPHET-AMOS 2016

Program for Research on Oxidants: Photochemistry, Emissions, Transport -
Atmospheric Measurements of Oxidants in Summer

Location: Pellston, MI
Date: July 2016

PROPHET forest is located at the University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) in the northern portion of the lower peninsula of Michigan. The forest has a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, and while the air is generally pristine, there are occasional anthropogenic influences from cities such as Detroit, MI, Chicago, IL, and Milwaukee, WI. The Keutsch group was part of an international group of atmospheric chemists that measured a host of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and their oxidation products as well as aerosol composition and related meteorology. In particular, a fellow grad student (Jean Rivera-Rios) and myself were focused on the measurement of formaldehyde using both our and NASA Goddard's laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) instruments.
